Project Info

Beep is a case study I completed in my own time. I developed an initial concept, researched competitors, analysed the user needs, tested using paper prototypes, wireframes and high quality mockups, and finally designed the interface for iPhone, in accordance with the iOS guidelines.

My initial motivation for creating an app that would make the drivers life easier came from wasting a lot of time texting, calling and organising pick up times and locations of friends and family members. The time and effort involved makes this simple task a very long and laborious one which can never be fully appreciated by the passenger until they find themselves in the drivers seat.

Aside from the hassle involved, there is increasing awareness on Road Safety with research indicating using your mobile phone while driving makes you 4 times more likely to crash. A new law has been enforced which states drivers caught using mobile phones while driving will be faced with a €1000 fine.

User Interface Design

The Beep App will provide drivers with the ability to easily offer friends a lift without the need for constant texting. The passengers will be able to track the driver’s progress and be ready on time. The driver will invite friends to join a journey. On accepting the passengers will receive a map and a timer so as they can count down the time until their lift arrives. The driver can map the best route between all locations, and collect all friends without having to touch his/her phone again.
